MEMA 2017 To Educate Washington On Motor Vehicle and Mobility Suppliers

The Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association, will hold their 2017 Legislative Summit on May 17 and 18 in Washington, DC, an educational and informational event held to educate Washington about the mobility and transportation industries.

Held since 2004, MEMA’s 2017 summit serves, in particular, to educate the new administration in the White House about the importance of motor vehicles part suppliers and manufacturers within the United States as well as advocating for policies that will benefit businesses within the motor vehicle supply industry. MEMA members comprise both the light vehicle and the commercial vehicle industries.

“We started this annual event in 2004, and it has grown into one of MEMA’s most important meetings of the year,” said Steve Hanschuch, MEMA President and CEO. “It is vital every year that MEMA members be in DC to tell their story to policy-makers. This year does pose some new opportunities, as President Trump has expressed that tax reform and NAFTA renegotiation are priorities.

According to MEMA, the current Administration does not pose problems to their cause, rather, it has given the Association a chance to meet with officials and begin to establish a relationship.

“MEMA has met with three high-level members of the Trump administration – including the National Economic Council, Secretary of Transportation, and Secretary of Commerce - to discuss issues critical to the supplier industry,” said Hanschuch. “MEMA will continue to build strong relationships across the spectrum in Washington on behalf of our members.”

In planning the 2017 Summit, MEMA reported that the annual Summit consistently allows for connections and relationship-building with congressional representatives and regulators.

Next week’s Summit will also include a Technology Fair located on Capitol Hill, wherein companies that are MEMA members can showcase their technology and demonstrate their contributions to the industry.

“The purpose of the Technology Fair is to allow member companies to highlight technologies that are both in production as well as in development,” said Hanschuch. “It is important for policy-makers to understand what is coming down the pike.”

The Legislative Summit will be held at The Watergate Hotel from May 17 to May 18 in Washington, DC.
