Tech Company TuSimple Announces Autonomous Truck Showcase

San Diego, California-headquartered startup company TuSimple has announced that will showcase its Level 4 autonomous truck at the 2018 Consumer Tehcnology Association in Las Vegas later this year as part of the company’s debut in the United States.

Tu Simple reports that these L4 autonomous trucks have plans for road testing in Arizona later this year, and that the truck’s debut will be coupled with a discussion of collaboration with AI computing leader NVIDIA.

Mo Chen, CEO of TuSimple reports that CES 2018 will be an ideal instance to debut the autonomous trucks and showcase other collaborations with current trucking industry names.

"This year, we reached several crucial milestones in our quest to launch commercially viable autonomous trucking services," said Chen. "CES is the perfect platform for spotlighting our latest L4 trucks, unveiling new collaborations with NVIDIA and Peterbilt and introducing our executive team."

According to TuSimple, the company is on track to deploy in the commercial markets of the United States and China within the next few years thanks to extensive safety testing procedures.

Additionally, TuSimple reports that 2018 will see an increased effort to release autonomous truck in a more commercial sense through deploying more Peterbilt models.

TuSimple reports that in order to ensure peak safety and efficiency, extensive safety testing is accompanied by a compilation of human driver behavior data, visual positioning technology, and other perception technologies built on the NVIDIA DRIVE computing platform.

"All forms of transportation are being transformed by AI, and TuSimple is helping pave the way to a safer and more efficient trucking system," said Rishi Dhall, Senior Director of Business Development, NVIDIA.

Late 2017 saw TuSimple reportedly secure $23 million dollars in a Series B funding round as well as $55 million additionally raised by the company.

TuSimple reports that late 2017 also saw Chuck Price, formerly of Peloton Technology come on board as the company Vice President of Product in order to lead operations at the Tucson testing plant and establish a production engineering team.
