DOL Health Care Proposal Supported By ATA

Earlier today the American Trucking Associations announced that it would welcome the U.S. Department of Labor's recent proposal for high-quality and low coast health insurance to be more easily accessible to small businesses and self-employed individuals.

The ATA reports that the trucking industry is comprised primarily of what are considered small businesses, with a reported rate of over 90% of registered motor carriers reporting operation of less than six trucks.

According to the ATA, due to the number of smaller carriers and independent drivers in the industry, the Associations have supported the Trump administration health care reform proposals.

"Today's proposal is a step in the right direction for improving access to affordable, quality health care for all Americans," said Chris Spear, ATA President and CEO. "We were pleased in October when President Trump signed an executive order allowing self-employed individuals to pool together to purchase health insurance plans sponsored by larger associations and groups, and we are happy to see his Administration take the next step in advancing this plan today."

ATA Chairman and President of TCW Inc., Nashville, Tennesse, Dave Manning reports his support and commendation for Secretary Acosta and President Trump in supporting smaller forces in trucking and improving the current health care system.

"President Trump and Secretary Acosta should be commended for their leadership in increasing access to affordable health insurance for thousands of Americans through this action," said Manning. "By allowing self-employed individuals and small businesses to pool their resources and offer affordable insurance options, this administration is making good on its promise to improve our health care system."
