Middle Bay Transportation, a subsidiary of ASF Transportation Group, announced earlier today that it has entered a strategic partnership with FSI Inc., a North Carolina-based provider of intermodal drayage and container yard services.

The new partnership finds FSI, a company that started nearly three decades ago, operating as an agent of Middle Bay Transportation. FSI’s assets include 35 employees, 85 trucks, and 70 acres of property, on which it possesses two full-service maintenance facilities.

“We are extremely pleased to become an agent of Middle Bay Transportation and view the relationship as a mutually beneficial strategic partnership,” said Tim Frye, owner of FSI, Inc.

“Middle Bay Transportation’s expertise with regards to technology, driver recruitment and safety will allow us to focus our efforts on growing our business in Charlotte, Charleston and throughout the East Coast,”added T.J. Frye, FSI’s Vice President.

ASF reports that the partnership will represent a strategic step towards company growth and presence in North Carolina and South Carolina as well as the East Coast area. FSI is reportedly one of North Carolina’s largest container yard operators, also operating the Charlotte Intermodal Terminal (CIT).

“The partnership between FSI, Inc. and Middle Bay Transportation strategically positions both companies to maximize potential in the growing Charleston and Charlotte markets,”stated Michael Smith, President of ASF Transportation Group.

“These locations,”Smith continued, “will play a critical role in further expansion as the inland and port locations continue to expand.”

Middle Bay, which just commenced operations this past January, already has 125 trucks under its control with this new partnership.

Headquartered in Mobile, Ala., Middle Bay reports that it is actively looking for other agents established across the United States. The firm also has a presence in Memphis, Tenn., Norfolk, Va, Charlotte, N.C., and Charleston S.C.

FSI Inc., is a family-owned and operated enterprise that offers single-source solutions for end-to-end intermodal transportation.

In addition to intermodal services, FSI currently offers on-site and road M&R, cross-docking and warehousing, and container sales services.
