Penske Recieves EPA SmartWay Award Fifth Year In A Row

Penske Truck Leasing, the Reading, Pennsylvania-based transportation fleet and logistics solution company has received the U.S. EPA SmartWay Affiliate Challenge Award for 2017.

This award, granted to organizations and associations who consistently contribute to a clean energy economy through informing and educating nearby communities, businesses, company truck drivers, and other local entities marks the fifth-consecutive award for Penske Truck Leasing.

In receiving the EPA’s award, Penske Truck Leasing has promoted a company policy that informs its stakeholders and adjacent affiliates of the perceived importance of reducing emissions from vehicles and taking proactive steps towards a “green” initiative on roadways across the country.

"Being recognized as a five-time honoree is quite an accomplishment," said Drew Cullen, senior vice president of fuels and facility services for Penske Truck Leasing. "We appreciate the opportunity to consistently provide our customers with the means to enhance, or to create, quality sustainability programs that support their business models."

Penske Truck Leasing has implemented several environmentally-conscious programs and bolstered advocacy plans that align with goals stated by the EPA SmartWay Transport Program.

Among these practices, Penske Truck Leasing has assisted their clients in establishing benchmarks and realistic goals for a fleet to establish a conscious fuel economy in the U.S.and Canada.

Penske has also been recognized by the EPA for being a present force and presenter at sustainability conferences and transportation-industry events for lectures relating to both environmentalism and potential ways to increase efficiency for truck lines.

"EPA commends the SmartWay Affiliate Challenge honorees for their extraordinary level of commitment and enthusiasm in supporting more efficient and sustainable business practices in moving goods," said director of the EPA's Office of Transportation and Air Quality, Christopher Grundler. "These organizations represent diverse industry sectors and stakeholders who believe that American prosperity can be preserved while protecting the environment."

In receiving the award, The trucking company has also been honored by the EPA with a distinction in helping promote global trade and a stimulus in world economy.

Though Penske Truck Leasing has made advancements towards clean fleets and implanting equipment that utilizes alternative fuel sources, the company is still recognized as a leader in maintaining operating fleets that use traditional fuel.

This award finds Penske Truck Leasing as one of the nine organizations to receive the SmartWay Affiliate Challenge Award.

Penske Truck Leasing is the only company to receive the EPA SmartWay 2017 Affiliate Award, alongside the American Trucking Association, Mid-Atlantic Diesel Collaborative, and The Colorado Motor Carriers Association, among other recognized entities.

Penske Truck Leasing, as a partner of the Penske Corporation, sees over 240,000 vehicles in operation worldwide in part the Penske family.
