Meritor, Inc. is the latest to join the American Trucking Associations in recognizing more than 3 million drivers nationwide during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week (Sept. 15-21). The company's employees across the United States will personally thank truck drivers delivering raw materials to its plants and finished goods to customers.

Trucker appreciation

During the ATA-sponsored week, truck drivers bringing freight to Meritor's U.S. facilities will see banners of appreciation and recognition for their service and commitment to delivering goods safely and on time. In addition, Meritor social media channels will promote safe trucking tips during the month of September. Followers can join in on the conversation by connecting to #safetrucking.

"At Meritor, we recognize that these hardworking men and women keep the country moving, logging close to 398 billion miles each year and delivering billons of tons of freight Ì all while keeping our highways safe," said Tim Burns, vice president, North America, Meritor. "We appreciate their dedication, focus on safety and timely delivery."

From its 13 U.S. facilities, Meritor makes 120,000 truck freight shipments in the United States annually and interacts with more than 2,400 drivers. In fact, the company's shipments travel more than 95 million miles each year.

And according to the ATA, the nation's truck drivers log close to 398 billion miles each year, delivered more than 68 percent of the U.S. freight tonnage - or more than 9.4 billion tons of freight in 2012. Eighty percent of U.S. communities depend solely on the trucking industry to receive their goods.

Another company fueled up for Driver Appreciation, (especially after recent negative publicity surrounding their fuel rebate scandal), Pilot Flying J has extended their celebration of Driver Appreciation through the entire month of September - offering double MyRewards points and giveaways for its professional driver customers.

“Professional drivers are the foundation of our country, and it has always been our highest priority to help make their life and job run smoothly while on the road,” said Pilot Flying J CEO, Jimmy Haslam. “We recognize that long hours, tough driving conditions and days away from family are just some of the challenges professional drivers face each day. In honor of Driver Appreciation Month, we are pleased to offer double points for all our professional driver loyalty members.”

In addition to double MyRewards points throughout the month of September, Pilot Flying J is also celebrating professional drivers with a number of other giveaways during the official National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, Sept. 15-21.

“While we are designating September to extend our appreciation to professional drivers, it is our ultimate goal to provide them with the best products and services every day of the year,” Haslam adds.
