New "American Trucker of the Year" Award Established

American Trucker magazine andWIX Filters have teamed up to create a new award specifically for the often-overlooked yet hard-working-as ever-small operators in the trucking industry. The “American Trucker of the Year” award is the official name to honor the industry's independent operator and small business category. In recognition of the commitment, time, and all-too-precious dollars it takes to not only be successful as an independent operator or small trucking business these days but a safe one as well, the award has been established to give the good and safe operators some well deserved praise.

What also distinguishes this award from the rest, besides its specified category of recipients, is that it isn't just a typical “trophy-and-a-handshake” award program either. WIX Filters is sponsoring some pretty big prizes to help recognize the best small truckers in business today. For example, the grand prize would actually be an entire package of valuable prizes that might include four tickets to a 2014 NASCAR or NHRA event, up to $2,500 in WIX heavy-duty filters, and a $500 give card…just for starters.

In addition to the prizes, such an award is to give well deserving recipients praise and honor for their positive contributions to the trucking industry and to inspire others to aspire to such standards as well. It's really a simple but well meaning concept: celebrating those independents and small trucking companies that are committed to safety, innovation, and the willingness to travel new and different roads in search of ever-more efficient ways to deliver the goods this nation needs in order to thrive.

One given example of someone who might fit this bill is the industry's infamous Henry “Highway Hank” Good, whose ubiquitous rig can be seen at many industry events, such as the recent 2013 Mid America Trucking Show. His rig was on display in a case and guarded by his trusty canine co-pilot.

American Trucker now asks you the question: Do you, or a trucking operator you know fitting the above criteria, have what it takes to be the “American Trucker of the Year”? For example, do you know a successful small fleet that does a tremendous amount of charity work? Or do you know an owner-operator that's been willing not only to invest in the latest safety technologies but achieve a monetary payback with them as well?

If you or a trucker you know fits such a description, you can enter the award candidate on the American Trucker website's contest entry form or you can go to the American Trucker's “Trucker of the Year” facebook page.

The key to submitting the winning entry is the best description of why the potential candidate (owner/operator or small trucking business) is a cut way above the rest.
