Trucker Path Acquired By Beijing-Based RenRen

Beijing-based social networking and internet finance company Renren Inc announced earlier today that it has entered into an agreement to acquire 100% of social platform Trucker Path Inc.

Trucker Path Inc. provides the “Trucker Path” mobile application and website for United States-based drivers with services related to trip-planning and trucking community sourced information, among other features.

Renren reports that the acquisition of Trucker Path is a move for the company into the transportation sector, with a potential future in exploring autonomous transportation.

"Currently, the two major emerging technology areas are artificial intelligence and blockchain. With the acquisition of the Trucker Path social platform and the Truckloads freight marketplace, the Company (RenRen) will be well-positioned technologically to drive innovation within this important industry," reports Joseph Chen, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Renren.

According to RenRen, the Trucker Path app provides users with real-time information such as available parking spaces, rest areas on a given route as well as the status of weigh stations.

Trucker Path reportedly sees over 600,000 monthly users comprised of 33% of the entirety of long haul truckers in the U.S.

RenRen also reports that Trucker Path has seen further popularity and exposure through the Truckloads app, a freight load matching platformthat sees more than 3 million loads posted every month.
