Earlier today the Safety Management Council at the American Trucking Associations named Estes Express Lines’ Curtis Carr as the recipient of the 2017 National Safety Director Award, presented at the ATA Safety, Security and Human Resources National Conference and Exhibition in Memphis Tennessee.

American Trucking Associations (ATA) President and CEO Chris Spear reports that Carr’s leadership at Estes Express and proactivity in regards to safety has made him a name in the trucking industry.

"Curtis is a well-respected safety expert throughout our industry and the results of his leadership speak volumes about his approach to safety and interaction with the wider trucking community," said Spear. "One only has to look to recent successes at Estes to see evidence of Curtis's leadership. The company won six ATA SMC safety awards just last year and continues to improve safety on our nation's highways under Curtis's direction."

According to the ATA, Carr began a career at Estes Express Lines in 1993 and in 1998 he assumed the position of the Vice President of Safety and Risk Management.

Carr has also reportedly served as the Chairman, Vice Chairman, 2nd Vice Chairman and Treasurer of the Safety Management Council at the ATA, as well as an active member of the Virginia Trucking Association Safety Management Council, among other Virginia-based trucking activities.

The ATA reports that the Safety Management Council Award has been given to recipients across the trucking industry who have demonstrated that they are experts in their field, and these recipients are generally selected by officials in law enforcement roles as well as representatives in the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance.
