Trucking Parts Manufacturer Dana To Supply Parts For New York Attraction

Ohio-based commercial vehicle parts Dana Incorporated announced earlier today that it will focus some efforts slightly outside of the traditional purview of the company in order to focus on the New York Wheel.

Dana reports that it will be supplying the driveshaft assemblies as well as the gearboxes for the New York-based observation wheel, which will reportedly be the tallest in the world.

According to Dana, the gearboxes and other materials used for the project are normally used for heavy-duty commercial vehicles.

Though currently under construction, the New York Wheel will reportedly be situated on the north shore of Staten Island when completed in 2018, standing 630 feet tall.

In a press release issued by Dana, the company’s president of Off-Highway Drive and Motion Technologies, Aziz Aghili, reported that the company was eager to task on the task when approached by the team of the New York project.

Dana reports that the completed New York Wheel will be designed with 36 pods that can hold up to 40 people apiece, allowing visitors to view New York sights such as the Manhattan skyline and the statue of liberty.

In partnering with the New York-based project, Dana reports that it its motion system products and planetary gearboxes will be used for the wheel’s rotation.

The vehicle parts company reports that in its 70 years of manufacturing, it has supplied machinery for a wide variety of industries in addition to commercial transport.
